How To Install The Google Tag For Conversion Tracking

If you care about making the most of your ad’s budget, it is not optional to track Google advertising.

Without it, you are blinding, guess what is working and what is wasted.

Whether you are setting it for the first time or just need a refresher, there is a step -by -step guide to install Google Tag and fire properly.

Step 1: Create an conversion action

Before getting Google Tag details, we need to start with a making The action of conversion.

Why does conversion actions need?

They are the main pieces of data that:

  • Allow your website to measure your advertising performance by measuring relevant users’ conversion operations.
  • Allow you to improve your campaigns by analyzing conversion data.
  • Allow the algorithm to use these actions to know who your best customers are and find more of them.

To create an conversion action in your Google advertising account, navigate Goals> Exchanges> Summary. From there, click Make + conversion action:

Now, it is time to decide what kind of conversion actions have to be tracked. You can choose from:

  • Website
  • App
  • Phone calls.
  • Offline conversion (imported from other connected sources).

In addition, Google offers a better group of different conversions that you are measuring, and why. Google includes conversion category:

  • Shopping
  • Sign up.
  • Download.
  • Subscribe.
  • Phone call lead.
  • Submit the lead form.
  • Book appointment.
  • The application value.
  • Contact.
  • Add to the cart.
  • Start the checkout.
  • Get instructions.
  • Advertisement in the app.
  • View the page.
  • Outbound click.

You can create an conversion process from web and app events within Google advertising, or you can manually configure them.

If you choose to use web and app events from Google Analytics, you don’t have to change your code.

If you choose to set up a manually conversion process, you will need to add a piece of event to your website code.

Step 2: Install Google Tag

There are three main components of setting up Google tag:

  • Install Google Tag.
  • Adding pieces of conversion event (if manually created conversion actions).
  • Confirm Google Tag.

How to install Google Tag

In the Google Advertising interface, find the tag set option. Navigate Tools> Data Manager.

From there, you will see the first Google tag option.

In the above example, I have already set up Google Tag. If you don’t do this, you will click + Connect the product To configure it.

Google tags can be installed in two different ways:

  • Install with a website Builder or Content Management System (CMS) such as Wicks, Shophas, etc.
  • Manually

If manually installs, you will need to copy the code shown on the screen. Paste it on every page of your website immediately after that

It is important not to add more than one Google tag to each page.

After joining it, you can test the website to confirm that it is working.

Finally, if your team uses a Google Tag manager, you can add Google tags through the Google Tag manager for additional features. This is helpful if you need to manage multiple tags.

Adding pieces of conversion event

If the Google Tag was installed with a website builder or CMS, you can leave this step!

If you have manually added Google Tag, this is an essential move you cannot leave.

In the Google Tag section of Google Advertising, navigate Details To see the pieces of the event.

From there, you will select how to track the conversion:

The code can either be downloaded or copied directly from the page.

Google tag verifying

If you have not previously confirmed your tag setup, now is the best time to confirm – especially if you have manually installed the tag and used pieces of conversion incident.

In the Google Tag section of Google Advertising, go to it Admin Scroll down the section of your tag and down Launch tag assistant.

This will open a new tab, where you will input your website URL, then click Root.

From there, Google Tag Assistant debug will confirm whether the tag is placed properly or if further action is needed.

Correct tracking is required

Once your Google Tag is ready and running, the conversion data begins to rolling, which gives you the real insights to perform your ads.

Don’t even guess that if your campaigns are paying – you will have data to prove it.

Just remember: If your site changes (such as a new checkout flu or different URL structure), look at your own tracking setup again. And if you ever wonder why the conversion looks less, start testing the tag – this is usually something easy.
